And one day, poof they redirected the mod site to their new mod (which I don't think was even completed) and posted that there would never be a new version of firearms and they created a single subforum for firearms people to use.

It became clear something was up and at some point we (sgossard34, me and some others) figured out ben and the other guys were working on a new mod. Somehow Sgossard got involved with the mod and helped as a beta tester and maybe got some coder to work on 3.0. But after 2.7 (or 2.6, long time ago) development slowed. I was still a moderator and in the development forum. Somewhere in all this I joined and got to know Sgossard34 (one of the other best players, but he mostly only used famas). So it got released and was mostly well received. It was a lot of fun and I did my best to help keep it balanced by using every weapon to well, frankly own them. I beta tested this with them for Firearms 2.6 or 2.7 and 3.0 (as CrystalX/fuzzy worms) and saw a lot of the drama with them on the development board.

Ben was the guy who took over and there were some others involved. Basically the people who worked on the game after the original creator left (zerk). There is a discord out there for some folks who enjoyed shitposting in the OTF forums, like Apoc, Cheesesteakjim, Teedy, CatCommy, comment, CaptMars, Medlar, Mg23, swatjester, Battlewhack, Wallrod, Scaenvger, StandingCow, Vatek etc. Tbh it doesn't really matter, tons of folks did some really fucked up shit that they shouldn't have and it fractured a community. Then Issah / Maggie and some others went on to make FA:S and that went on until something behind the scenes happened and I'm not really sure what, but then Issah and Maggie left the FA:S Project and FA:S kind of languished after that. Sgossard34 was one of the main ones, so was Jon or something - anyway those people went on to make Firearms 2. Couple folks lost their wedding photos or kids photos, most lost tons of personal projects that they had on the server and didn't have backed up. So they called up the server hosts, pretended to be "locked out" and took over the host, and then refused to throw folks who had personal photos or projects on that server - and changed the contact information with the server hosts. So what happened to Firearms: Source? Why did it disappear from Steam?Ģ different teams fighting I guess, some issues with stuff getting stolen.Ī couple of guys got really upset that the mod makers didn't want to keep FA updated when HL2 came out and they were going to switch gears to an entirely new mod for HL2 and not just work on Firearms: Source. Which is a shame, because FA:S featured a lot of highly detailed and realistic weapons, which still live on through GMod SWEPs and YouTube video game weapon demonstration videos.

Their former official website,, appears to have went down, their Steam store page has disappeared (though I've tried SteamDB and you can download the game through SteamDB), their ModDB page shows that the game was last updated in 2013, and the game as a whole seems to have disappeared from the public memory. However, if you search up Firearms: Source today, you can barely find any info about it.

Firearms was a moderately successful GoldSrc mod, and according to Wikipedia was at one point the third most popular GoldSrc mod behind Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic. Firearms: Source is a Source engine multiplayer first-person shooter mod and a sequel to the GoldSrc mod Firearms.
